Nova: Music Streaming & Festival Discovery App
Team Project | UX/UI Design | Figma & Maze
Nova is a mobile app that combines music streaming, personalized playlists, social features, and festival discovery into one seamless experience. Its standout feature is an integrated festival hub where users can browse and purchase tickets directly, bridging digital listening with live events. Targeted at tech-savvy users aged 15–40, Nova competes with Spotify and includes key flows like sign-up, playlist creation, and festival ticket purchasing.
User Research & Personas
To begin our user research phase, we interviewed both Spotify and Apple Music users (between the ages of 15 and 40) to determine what they liked about the apps and also what frustrated them. These insights were then translated into key personas.
User Flow
Low Fidelity Wireframes & User Testing
Conducting user testing with Maze was insightful because the hotspots gave us immediate feedback on where users expected to click. They also revealed areas of friction in the app, based on how long it took users to successfully navigate each flow. We followed up with a few questions to gather input on participants’ overall experience and satisfaction with the app. After testing with all participants, we identified patterns that helped us determine what was working well and what needed adjustment.
For our high-fidelity wireframe, we focused on:
Creating a clearer hierarchy so users could better understand the intended flow
Refining the checkout process, as users had to go through several screens to reach it
Ensuring all screen buttons were functional to reduce confusion and improve the overall user experience
UI & Moodboard
Typography and color choices aimed to reflect the fun, lively atmosphere of festivals. Poppins was chosen for the subhead and body copy across the entire app to ensure legibility at small point sizes.
